All care is delivered through planned private appointments, ensuring continuity, time for discussion and personalised management. Urgent, emergency and out-of-hours care remains with your local maternity unit or GP.

Who will I see at my consultation?
Your consultation is with Professor Ranjit Akolekar, Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-specialist in Fetal Medicine, with over 25 years’ experience in high-risk pregnancy and more than 250 published studies.
How long are the appointments?
New in-person consultations last 60 minutes and follow-up consultations 30 minutes, so there is time to go through your history and every question. See our consultation prices.
Can I have a virtual consultation?
Yes. Secure video consultations are £200 for a new consultation and £150 for a follow-up. They suit follow-ups, reviewing results or if you live further away. If you need an examination or scan, we will arrange an in-person appointment.
When should I book a postnatal consultation?
From 6 weeks after birth. It includes a pregnancy and birth debrief, an examination and relevant investigations, and advice for future pregnancies and your long-term health.
Can I get a second opinion?
Yes. A second opinion consultation + scan is £350 (+£100 for twins) and includes a detailed scan, consultation and written report. It suits a pregnancy or scan finding, a clinical concern, a soft marker or a suspected abnormality.
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you can book directly. If you share your GP or midwife’s email, we will send them a summary of your consultation.
Do you accept health insurance?
Yes, we accept both insured and self-pay patients. If you are using insurance, please check your cover and any authorisation with your insurer before your appointment.
Can you deliver my baby?
We do not provide private delivery. Most of our patients give birth on the NHS, and we can refer you to a private obstetrician of your choice. Your consultant can help you plan the timing and mode of your birth.
What should I do if I have an urgent concern?
We provide planned appointments only. If you have pain, bleeding, contractions, leakage of fluid, reduced baby movements or any other urgent concern, contact your local NHS maternity unit or Early Pregnancy Unit, NHS 111 or your GP, or attend A&E. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999.
